HRC monitors the situation with the fire in the detention center of Ulyanovsk – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, August 30 – RIA Novosti. The Presidential Human Rights Council (HRC) is in control of the situation from occurring on the eve of the fire in the detention center in Ulyanovsk, in the near future some of the defenders could visit the region, told RIA News HRC head Mikhail Fedotov.

A fire in Ulyanovsk prison occurred on Saturday evening. Four people were killed, eight were hospitalized. Upon ignition Investigation Department RF IC for the Ulyanovsk region opened a criminal case for negligence.

He said that the HRC “would like to receive information from the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia on the results of the internal investigation, which is now being conducted to understand the causes and what can be done to these causes as quickly as possible to eliminate”.

According to Fedotov, you need to understand that the vast majority of detention centers have been built a long time and funds for their modernization underfunded. “Therefore, such a tragedy, unfortunately, possible. But we must do everything to avoid them”, – the source said.
