Festival “Mariinsky in Shanghai” will be held with the participation of Opera, ballet and Symphony orchestra in this city-partner of St. Petersburg from 18 to 25 October. About this TASS said the artistic Director of the troupe, people’s artist of Russia Valery Gergiev.
“We believe tour in China an important part of our Pacific-Asian tour. Developing our relations, the troupe will hold the first festival “of the Mariinsky theatre in Shanghai”, with the participation of Opera, ballet and Symphony orchestra,” said Maestro, under the control of which will take place the festival program.
What will present Mariinsky theatre in China
On the stage of the Shanghai Grand theater will be presented the Opera of Peter Tchaikovsky “Queen of spades”, ballet by Sergei Prokofiev “Romeo and Juliet” and Symphony concerts. The ballet will open the program Diana Vishneva and Konstantin Zverev. The basis of a symphonic program consists of works by Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich. The soloists, the Maestro has invited talented musicians – pianist Abduraimov and Hungarian violinist kristóf baráti.
In the year of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Prokofiev, the Mariinsky 26 and 27 October will present at the Bolshoi Opera theatre of Harbin his Opera “War and peace” directed by Andrey Konchalovsky. October 29 Symphony orchestra of the Mariinsky theatre under Valery Gergiev will give a concert in Beijing at the National centre for the performing arts (NCPA), will include excerpts from the ballet music “Romeo and Juliet” and the Fifth Symphony by Gustav Mahler.
And already on 30 October, the Mariinsky ballet will perform twice at the National concert hall of Taipei (Taiwan). The matinee concert will feature the Overture to the Opera “William tell” by Gioachino Rossini, the First cello Concerto of Dmitri Shostakovich (soloist – Andrei Ionita) and the Fifth Symphony by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Tonight the Symphony orchestra and soloists of the Opera troupe of the Mariinsky theatre will present a concert performance of the Opera of Richard Wagner’s “das Rheingold”.
